QUALITY & TESTING

How We Control Hoof Rasp Performance

Hoof rasp performance depends on steel, hardening method, hardness control, tooth geometry and production consistency.

We control these variables through defined material specifications, through-hardening, hardness verification, tooth-profile inspection and batch testing.

Our 14-inch hoof rasp line is built around three core specifications: 1095 high-carbon steel, through-hardened construction, and HRC 60–65 hardness.

What Steel Are Elite Forge Hoof Rasps Made From?

Our 14-inch hoof rasps are made from 1095 high-carbon steel.

Material specification works together with heat treatment, hardness control, tooth geometry and inspection to support consistent performance.

HARDENING METHOD

What Is the Difference Between Through-Hardening and Case-Hardening?

A through-hardened rasp is hardened through the working section, while a case-hardened product has a hardened outer layer over a softer core.

Our 14-inch hoof rasps use through-hardened construction rather than a case-hardened surface.

Hard all the way through — not a thin hard skin over a soft core.

THROUGH-HARDENED

Hardness extends through the working section.

CASE-HARDENED

Hardness is concentrated near the surface.

HARDNESS

What Does HRC 60–65 Mean in a Hoof Rasp?

Hardness is controlled within a target range of HRC 60–65 across all our hoof rasp line.

HRC refers to Rockwell C hardness, a standard scale used to measure the hardness of steel tools and cutting instruments.

The important point is not simply achieving a high hardness number, but controlling production within a defined range and verifying hardness as part of batch inspection.

TOOTH GEOMETRY

How Is Hoof Rasp Tooth Geometry Controlled?

We inspect tooth profiles as part of the production quality-control process.

Different hoof rasp models use different cutting profiles for different working purposes.

Model Width Cut Profile
Standard Quick-Cut 45 mm Coarse
Standard Smooth-Finish 45 mm Fine
Wide Quick-Cut 50 mm Coarse
Wide Smooth-Finish 50 mm Fine
Wide Fine-Finish 50 mm Extra-Fine

Tooth-profile detection and cutting-ability testing are part of the inspection process before release.

SIX-STEP INSPECTION

How Does Elite Forge Inspect Hoof Rasps?

  1. 01Raw-Material Incoming Inspection
  2. 02Annealing Organization Testing
  3. 03Final Size Inspection
  4. 04Tooth Profile Detection
  5. 05Cutting Ability Testing
  6. 06Assembly Tension Testing

The inspection process is designed to identify variation before product release and support more consistent repeat-order production.

BATCH CONSISTENCY

Why Does Batch-to-Batch Consistency Matter?

For B2B buyers, the goal is not one good sample. The goal is repeatable production that continues to match the approved specification.

Distributors, retailers and OEM buyers need products that remain consistent across repeat orders.

The goal is not one perfect sample.
The goal is consistent production.

CUTTING DESIGN

How Are Elite Forge Hoof Rasps Designed to Cut?

Our long-format hoof rasps use a double-sided design: a coarse rasp side for material removal and a fine file side for finishing.

COARSE / RASP SIDE

Fast material removal.

FINE / FILE SIDE

Controlled finishing.
